DENTAL
Dental Health Programs for Children – The Marshall County Health Department, in partnership with the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry, provides free dental sealants for 2nd and 7th graders in Marshall County . The Toothfairy also visits area childcare centers, preschools, and kindergartens to promote proper dental health. The Dental Varnish Program is offered to children under the age of 5 to prevent tooth decay.
Fluoride Varnish:
Fluoride varnish is a method for aiding in the prevention of dental decay.
Fluoride varnish is a sticky, caramel colored liquid containing fluoride.
Varnish may taste unpleasant, but taste returns to normal within seconds.
Varnish is not harmful.
After varnish application, there is a temporary yellowish discoloration to teeth which usually resolves in about 1-2 days.
Fluoride varnish needs to be applied twice a year.
Fluoride varnish will not prevent early childhood cavities if behavior of caregiver doesn't change towards healthy dental habits.
