MORE INFORMATION
Food Safety Program
Our Food Safety Program operates locally under the direction of the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, Department for Public Health and is mandated by law (KRS Chapter 217) to protect consumers from the sale of adulterated, misbranded and falsely labeled foods and food products.
Inspections are carried at specified intervals to ensure safe foods are served in restaurants, grocery stores, hospitals, nursing homes, schools, food/beverage vending machines, hotels, bed and breakfast lodging, fairs, festivals, farmer’s markets and other locations where food is offered to the public. Other facilities such as confinement facilities, boarding homes, and processing and manufacturing plants are inspected by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, Food Safety Branch. Each type of facility is required to make an application for a permit to operate prior to opening a food service facility. Plan approval is required when applicable and pre-opening inspections as well as plumbing inspections must be completed prior to operation.
